Red beats Light Blue to keep finals hope alive

The Red Team showed its determination to qualify in the finals of Konsult Haus Basketball League after a narrow 54-51 win over the Light Blue Team on Monday, October 8, 2010, at Celebrity Sports Club.

The Red Team kept an insurmountable lead throughout the game with 23-15, 35-23, and 44-35. The Light Blue tied the score, 51-51, at 2:07 in the fourth quarter with a bank shot from Albert Pitalber, but the three split charities from Ariel Arimagao secured the win the for the Red Team.

According to Light Blue’s Captain Ian Santos, the team became too confident of its twice-to-beat advantage which led to their loss. “Kulang kami ng team play, masyado naming inisip na twice-to-beat kami kaya naging complacent ‘yung team namin,” he said.

The Red Team, on the other hand, considered the Light Blue Team’s advantage as a challenge. “Kaya nga na-overcome namin ‘yung half part of it so kalahati na lang at ngayon may advantage kami psychologically sa kanila dahil natalo na namin sila,” said Anthony V. Gedang, captain of Red Team.

Gedang added it helped that every player in the team scores.  “If you have noticed medyo kalat kalat ‘yung points namin ngayon; there is no one person na maraming ginawa kalat ‘yung score, which is a good thing for us. Sa kanila medyo concentrated ‘yung scores nila eh.”

Arnel Santos Jr. led the Red Team scorers with 15 points. Arimagao and Christian de Paz added 13 and 10 points, respectively. Gedang and Artemio Matienzo chipped in 6 points apiece, while Jimmy San Pedro chalked up 2 points.

Meanwhile, the Light Blue Team is pumped to beat the Red Team in the second game on Wednesday, October 11, to qualify in the finals. “Do or die na. Lahat ibibigay namin para manalo,” said Santos.
