More than 50 children-beneficiaries from Dupax Reading and Learning Center participated at the waste management lecture and activity of AV Gedang Foundation, Inc. on Saturday, October 27, 2018, facilitated by Pollution Control Officer/Special Accounts Manager Debbie Simsuangco, CSR Coordinator Vicky Dineros, and CSR Staff Candice Brillon.
A film titled ‘This Is How We Destroy Everything’ was shown to help the children better understand how some human activities can be detrimental to the environment. They also learned how to properly segregate their trashes to Biodegradable, Non-Biodegradable, Recyclable, Papers, Plastics, Bottles, Cans, and Residuals.
Biodegradable wastes are materials that can be easily broken down by microorganisms (e.g. food wastes) while non-biodegradable wastes are products that take a long time before it degrades (e.g. plastic).
To reduce non-biodegradable wastes, children were taught to recycle plastic bottles and aluminum cans into useful crafts such as pencil holders, candle jars, and vases.
“Napakaimportanteng matutunan ng mga bata ang waste management upang matutunan nilang pangalagaan ang kanilang kapiligiran at mag-recycle,” said Dineros.
