Envirokonsult Equipment and Services, Inc. together with the Republic Defenders and Department of Environment and Natural Resources (DENR) on Tuesday, March 12, 2019, formally turned over the communal septic tank it upgraded for the informal settlers along Estero Padua in Barangay 718 Malate, Manila.

Among the highlights of the project is the installation and connection of pipes to 75 households to the communal septic tank in order to stop the direct disposal of untreated wastewater from houses without proper sanitary toilets to estero which also flows down to Manila Bay.

The DENR expects that with the improvement of communal septic tank the coliform level of the estero will further go down. DENR Secretary Roy Cimatu said the coliform level along the estero went down to 300 million most probable number (MPN) per 100 milliliters from 1.3 billion last January; however, this is still way higher than the safe level of 100 MPN per 100 ml.

The improvement of Barangay 718’s communal septic tank is part of Envirokonsult’s commitment to help rehabilitate the polluted Manila Bay. Since 2001, Envirokonsult has been working towards a cleaner environment by designing, building, operating, and maintaining desludging trucks and septage treatment plants across the Philippines.
