Envirokonsult, Your Wastewater Engineering Solutions Partner, and Global Development Services (GDS), a water, sanitation and septage management specialist, signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last February 2 to jointly develop a Septage Management Internship Program (SMIP).
The two-week internship program aims to equip the septage management program professionals in the city and private sector with more comprehensive knowledge in implementing Fecal Sludge Management (FSM) programs.
Through job shadowing with Envirokonsult’s personnel, the interns will gain hands-on experience in operating desludging trucks and Fecal Sludge Treatment Plants (FSTPs). On top of that, the participants will learn the various service contracts for desludging, functions and specifications of FSTPs, and the required technical expertise for implementing FSM projects.
The internship program will commence in April 2020. The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation under its City-Wide and Improved Sanitation initiative agreed to fund the first batch of interns which already includes three participants from the social enterprise Eco Concern based in Nepal.
The MOU signing for the SMIP was attended by Anthony V. Gedang, President and CEO of Envirokonsult; Jet Pabilonia, Project Manager of Envirokonsult; Nene Narvaez of GDS; Jay Tecson of GDS; Talukder Abdul Khaleque, Mayor of Khulna City Corporation; Dr. Mohammad Abdullah, Managing Director of Khulna Water Supply and Sewerage Authority; and Abirul Jabbar, Chief Planning Officer at Khulna City Corporation.
“This is a most welcome partnership as I have always been an advocate of the environment and it has been my mission to spread Envirokonsult’s tried-and-tested best practices since the 1990s to everywhere else in the world, especially if our partners are well-renowned practitioners who are equally passionate as we are,” says Mr. Gedang.
Envirokonsult is a wastewater engineering company that pioneers in designing, building, operating, and maintenance of septage treatment plants (also known as Fully Mechanized Facility) and desludging trucks.
