Dranreb Tanawan’s layup with five seconds remaining clinched the championship title for the Orange Team in the finals of Konsult Haus Basketball League on Wednesday, October 17, 2018, at Celebrity Sports Club.
The Orange started the game on a high note, 20-12, but struggled to pass through the defense of Red in the second quarter only scoring 4 points, 24-29. Philip Masigan stepped up for the Orange Team in the third quarter firing 11 of his 23 points to snatch the lead from Red, 49-45.
The game intensified as the two teams entered a see-saw battle in the fourth quarter that was not decided until the last seconds. Jimmy San Pedro’s bank shot at 7:11 tied the score, 52-52, for the Red Team. Ariel Arimagao broke the deadlock, 56-55, at 5:21.
The rivalry continued when both teams tied 62-62 with only nine seconds left in the quarter but Tanawan managed to sneak through the tough defense of Red and scored a layup that bagged the win for Orange, 64-62. “Talo na kami kapag sumablay ‘yun kaya binigay ko na ‘yung best ko,” said Tanawan.
Masigan was tagged as game’s best player. Teotimo Sulibit and Jeffrey Claud racked up 17 and 16 points, respectively. Tanawan added 4 points, while Arthur Gedang and Ruel Tapales chipped in 2 points apiece.
The Orange Team finished its campaign with a clean 8 wins 0 loss record. When asked about the key to their victory, Captain Arthur Gedang pointed out the group’s teamwork.
